A Step Taken Last Week to Reduce the Business Lease Tax

The week of April 7th , The Florida House passed a bill to reduce the Business Lease Tax by .75%, from 2% to 1.25% for the State’s portion of the tax.

The next step will be in the Senate. The Senate sent the issue to the Appropriations Committee.

The Governor’s budget contained a 1% decrease in 2026 followed by total
elimination in 2027. This House bill is a more conservate position but any
reduction in the Business Lease Tax is always welcome. The current State
Business Lease tax rate is 2%, down from 4.5% as of June 2024.  Note that
Counties also collect their portion of this Business Lease Tax. For Sarasota
and Manatee Counties the rate currently is 3%. The House Proposed
reduction would reduce that rate to 2.25%.
